How will the cities of the future look? The way architects and city planners are configuring them today, of course. The construction of these designs will shape the cityscape for decades to come. Much more ephemeral is mobile communication via short-lived electronic devices like smartphones. So, how can these two elements be merged into smart cities?

Model Mega-City

At POST CITY, the Ars Electronica Festival considers this question in the particular context of Austria. The point of departure for this inquiry is a sprawling model city set up in the spacious halls of PostCity, the festival’s prime venue. 1,001 Models brings together a splendid array of works by Austrian architects and urban planners, regardless of whether their concepts were actually built or only proposed. They range from a DIY prefab house to a futuristic high-rise, from houseboats to row houses, from a kindergarten to a factory.
