Ching-wa Lau Jess, a media artist and illustrator born in 1991 in Hong Kong, was honored with the Silver Award in the Media Art category at the ifva Festival in her hometown.
The Fading Piece, her work that was also singled out for recognition as the best local entry, is a two-part stop-motion animated film that traces—in the truest sense of the word—the disappearance and reconfiguration of Kwun Tong Town Centre. The right side of the screen shows a pastel-colored pencil gradually disappearing; juxtaposed to it on the left side, a line drawing of a cityscape gradually emerges.
